Understanding this service

Community life looks different for everyone. Interests, routines, and personal preferences help shape a conversation about meaningful participation. The purpose is to identify support that fits the person rather than impose a standard set of activities.

Companion support is a distinct service. It should not be confused with supported employment, adult day training, or an automatic transportation service. Discuss the activities, access needs, and applicable plan with our team.

What to discuss with our team

  • The person’s interests and community goals
  • Activities and access needs relevant to those goals
  • The support plan and applicable authorization
  • Scheduling and transportation arrangements, if any

Before getting started

Start with a conversation about the individual’s priorities and the service of interest. Our team can explain what information is needed to review the request. Program eligibility and any required service authorization are separate from NRL’s own review.

Questions, answered.

Is this an adult day program?

Companion and Adult Day Training are different service categories. This page describes Level 1–Companion.

Does this include transportation?

Do not assume transportation is included. Ask how travel and access would be arranged for the activity.

How are activities chosen?

Start with the person’s interests and the goals in the applicable support plan. Discuss which support and activities are appropriate.

Good support starts with a conversation.
